A 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit the New York/New Jersey area on Friday with reverberations felt across New England and Pennsylvania.
The United States Geological Survey reported “the earthquake’s epicenter was in Lebanon, N.J., about 50 miles west of Manhattan. The shaking was reportedly felt in cities from Philadelphia to Boston,” according to The New York Times.
Social media got to the news before the broadcasters did, with users across Twitter/X asking frantically if anyone else felt the tremors — or just making some observations:
I’m telling you.
Philadelphia, Boston, New Jersey, New York and that whole area are not places that usually get earthquakes.
God is pissed at this country like he’s never been before.
Especially that area of the country.
They’re the epicenter of the lawfare against President…

The most New York City thing about the earthquake is that I actively felt it, thought “nah it can’t be an earthquake, it’s the construction guys outside” and then casually went back to doing my hair.

One thing Twitter is still good for: searching and seeing that you are not the only one who just felt New York City have an earthquake.
