LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — In honor of Women’s International Day. the East Village Art Market held a Women’s Market at The Rail Road in Little Rock from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This is East Village Art Market’s second year hosting the women-only market.
The market, open and free every month, featured 54 vendors and small businesses, including artists, makers, baker, and vintage clothes sellers.
Five local nonprofits (Arkansas Abortion Support Network, Central Arkansas Harm Reduction, Girls in Stem-Museum of Discovery, Women and Children First, and Intransitive) were also available to give out resources and information to those in attendance.
The East Village Art Market was founded by curator Brittany Langston in 2023, as she wanted to provide a platform for up and coming local creatives to showcase and sell their works.
“My mission was to create a vibrant space where local art, community, and creativity come together in an inclusive environment,” Langston said. “I wanted to create a market that was different than anything Little Rock has ever seen.”
Langston then spoke about the importance of the Women’s Market and having the event at The Rail Yard. “The Women’s Market is more than just a shopping event; it is a celebration of the creativity, talent, and success of the incredible women in our community,” said Langston. “Every aspect of this market is about women. From the vendors and organizations to our DJ, event photographer, the decor specialist, and not to mention that The Rail Yard is woman-owned and operated.”
The market also featured food trucks, yard games, drink special courtesy of The Rail Yard, and guest DJ, Missy Midwest, who produces music that is a “divinely feminine, electronic experience with big, hip-hop energy”. Happy Aura, a woman-owned and family-operated business that offers aura photography, aerial silk artist Kealy Cotton, and Carsyn Broadway Photography, available to take headshots for a small fee, were all in attendance. Kelsey Payton of Saline County Party Rentals of Bryant also provided a photobooth for the market.
