If you were at Rock The Country in Knoxville to see Ella Langley this past Friday (4/25), you might’ve caught a moment that’ll go down in country music history- and if you weren’t, pull up a chair, because this one’s worth hearing.
Ella Langley, the Alabama powerhouse who’s been taking Nashville by storm, was smack in the middle of her set when the show came to a sudden halt. Her mic cut out, the crowd got quiet, and then-bam!-up pops Miranda Lambert on the big screen behind her. Not just any Miranda Lambert, but the queen of ACM wins herself, ready to drop some life-changing news on her friend and fellow dog rescue advocate.
Miranda’s message was pure country gold: “I’m here to tell you how proud I am of you for being the top nominated artist for the Academy of Country Music Awards this year. You are my friend, first and foremost, a fellow dog rescue advocate, you are a co-writer, you are my soul sister in country music and a partner in crime. But I’m also here to tell you even bigger news-you, my friend, have won New Female Artist of the Year!” And y’all, she promised a Texas-sized celebration in Dallas that “they ain’t even ready”.
The crowd went wild, but Ella? She just stood there, tears in her eyes, soaking it all in. Backstage, clutching her first ACM trophy, she said, “I’ve just prayed about this and thought about it. Literally everything I’ve ever done has been to be able to do this, and I’m so grateful for the team I have around me. I’m really grateful for the fans that listen to the music and see that there is truth. I’m just a real-life human being going through life like everyone else. This is… thank you”.
It’s no wonder Ella took home the win-she’s the most-nominated artist at this year’s ACMs, racking up eight nods, including Female Artist of the Year and a whopping six for her smash hit with Riley Green, “You Look Like You Love Me.” That song not only hit No. 1 on country radio, but also made her the first of only two women to top the Billboard Country Airplay Chart in 2024. Her debut album, hungover, is already being called one of the best albums of the year by The New York Times and Rolling Stone, and she wrote every single track herself.
If you want to see Ella live this moment on the big stage, tune in to the 60th ACM Awards on May 8, streaming live from Frisco, Texas, with Reba McEntire hosting. And if you’re lucky enough to snag a ticket, get ready for a night of country music magic-because Ella Langley is just getting started, and country music is all the better for it.
