EPI Champions Artistic Inclusivity in Collaboration with Online Application HEAVYPAINT

“What is digital art?”

During the course of many exhibits by Edutainment Productions Inc. at OSA (EPI) gallery in Stonebridge, this question was asked numerous times by guests. EPI has been known for its dedication to showcasing various art forms since its founding in 2022, featuring digital artists in many of their monthly art exhibitions.

Digital art has been an enigma for some, a hotly debated topic for many, and an important form of expression for others. Yet, the question remains: “What is digital art?” According to EPI, digital art is a visual art form that uses software as its medium: swapping out traditional paint on canvas for a Stylus on a digital drawing pad. Despite the seemingly drastic change this presents, they assert that digital art still requires proficiency in traditional art techniques such as perspective, contrast, shading, color theory, and more.

No one knows that fact better than EPI’s Director of Diversity, Equity, and Collective Impact (DECI) Adonis Dorsey, who is a lifelong digital artist and animator. In a recent release, he said: “Digital art seems to be in a place where many still don’t consider it an art form simply because it’s not traditional paint on canvas. That couldn’t be further from the truth! Digital art is nothing short of an evolution in human creativity as we adapt in this rapidly advancing technological age.”

In an effort to shine a light on this contested topic, EPI has officially announced they will be partnering with the global digital art platform HEAVYPAINT to launch a collaborative digital art education series including an interactive webinar with HEAVYPAINT founder Vaughan Ling, a weeklong digital art challenge complete with exclusive prizes, and discount codes valid on the platform.

HEAVYPAINT and EPI zoom seminar

EPI and HEAVYPAINT’s official collaboration is set to kick off with the free live webinar presented by Edutainment and hosted by Vaughan Ling on Wednesday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m., where Ling will share insights into digital art creation, answer questions, and demonstrate the platform’s capabilities. Webinar attendees will also receive exclusive discount codes and the opportunity to connect with Ling for future creative projects. Following this, creators will be invited to participate in a week-long challenge showcasing their artistic talents using HEAVYPAINT, with recognition and prizes awarded to the top three participants.

This collaboration serves as an important beacon in dark times when the arts are losing funding and organizations aren’t pursuing partnerships as often due to widespread uncertainty. Nevertheless, Edutainment is remaining committed to its mission to educate, entertain, and inspire through the arts, be it paint on canvas, pen on pad, or any other medium of expression.
