A captivating solo art exhibition titled ‘A Love Affair’ was held in the federal capital, reflecting the struggles and contributions of women in society.
The event drew a large number of prominent social, political, and diplomatic figures. Organised by renowned author, artist, and activist Tehmina Durrani, the exhibition touched the hearts of attendees.
Hosted at Tanzara Art Gallery in Saidpur Village, Islamabad, the display featured powerful visual storytelling through paintings that explored the significant roles and challenges faced by women.
Durrani shared that creating these artworks has been a journey spanning two decades, with deep emotional expression infused into each piece. Visitors were visibly moved, with many praising the unique and heartfelt nature of the art.
Durrani is one of Pakistan’s most prominent women’s rights activists and acclaimed authors. Her groundbreaking autobiography, My Feudal Lord, published in 1991, shattered long-standing silences surrounding the lives of Muslim women. Translated into 39 languages and recognised as a European bestseller, the book reconciles women’s rights with the foundational principles of Islam, setting a new precedent for literary and social discourse in the Muslim world.
As an artist, Durrani’s work is deeply expressive. Her art captures a wide spectrum of human emotion and experiencewhether it’s the serenity of nature, the intensity of love, the ache of loss, or the depths of spiritual exploration. Through her brushstrokes, she unveils emotions both seen and unseen, touching on fears unspoken, and connections imagined or beyond imagination.
The exhibition also featured a soulful performance by legendary singer Abida Parveen, adding a spiritual depth to the experience. Guests, including politicians and diplomats, were thoroughly impressed, noting the soft yet profound emotional expression in the artwork.
