DODGEVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) — A threat was made against the Dodgeville School District through social media Wednesday night, the Dodgeville Police Department confirmed to 27 News.
Chief Shannon Jasica doesn’t believe the threat poses any immediate danger.
“We are working in coordination with the Sheriff’s Office and the school district, but do not believe there to be any immediate threat,” Jasica said in a statement.
Jasica said there will be extra patrols at the schools on Thursday.
The district sent the following email to families early Thursday morning:
Dodger Families:
At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27th, school administration was made aware of a concerning social media post. The post was generated by a student who was upset and angry at school administration. Due to the severity of the comments that were made, which included threats, law enforcement officers were notified and conducted an investigation. After investigating, they have determined that there is no immediate danger to students or staff.
As always in these circumstances, parents have the right to determine what is best for their child. If you do not feel comfortable sending your child to school on Thursday, March 28, it will be considered an administratively excused absence. We ask that you call the school office and inform the school if you choose to keep your child at home.
We prioritize the safety of our students and staff and will continue to work with law enforcement regarding this situation.
Sincerely,
Paul Weber
District Administrator
