Facebook, Instagram, Messenger down: Meta platforms stop working
Facebook and Instagram have been hit by a worldwide outage that has left potentially millions of people unable to access their accounts.
Users found they were mysteriously logged out and not able to log back in, or could not open the app at all.
The outage appears to be global, according to tracking website Down Detector.

Mark Zuckerberg stuns UFC 298 fans after appearing in corner of defending champion
Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta faced issues on Tuesday after major outages across its platforms Instagram and Facebook.
Back in January the tech entrepeneur stunned UFC fans as he appeared in the corner of Alexander Volkanovski as the Australian defended his featherweight title in Anaheim, California.

Social media platforms Facebook and Instagram back online after outage
Elon Musk mocked Meta on Tuesday after the company saw major outages on its platforms Instagram and Facebook.
But it’s not the first time the Tesla and X boss has butted heads with fellow tech giant Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook.
Last year, in a bizarre online feud, the pair went back and forth on social media, baiting each other about the prospect of a cage fight, before the argument seemed to peter out. In November Mr Musk appeared to reignite the feud.

Elon Musk trolls Meta
X boss Elon Musk, as ever took advantage of the chaos to troll Meta.
“If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working,” he wrote earlier on Tuesday.
Outage was not a cyber attack
#CyberAttack is trending on Twitter and many are expressing panic that their accounts have been hacked.
But there is no reason to think it was anything other than a standard (if very dramatic) technical problem caused by Meta itself. And that is what the company has seemingly indicated (see below).
Meta spokesperson says problem is resolved
Andy Stone, Meta spokesperson, has said that the problem is resolved.
‘Recovering from disruptions’
Meta’s business status page is now showing most of its services as “Recovering from disruptions”.
While it doesn’t run a similar page for its consumer products, you can imagine it would say the same: services appear to be recovering, even if they are not fully back yet.
Services appear to be coming back online – but problems remain
While numerous people are finding themselves able to get online, problems still remain. Some can’t get online or are having other problems.
Tracking website Down Detector shows an decrease in reports of problems – but, again, they’ve not gone away entirely.
And the Meta status page for business products is no longer yellow (as below) but some are turning green, to indicate “no known issues”, and some are turning red, for “major disruptions”.
Elon Musk continues to mock Meta
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone has posted that Meta is aware of the outage. Elon Musk appears to be making fun of him.
