Facebook down: Live updates as social media network hit with major outage

Facebook and Instagram users have been kicked out of their accounts in what appears to be an issue affecting the social media networks globally.

Shortly before 3:30pm GMT users were booted off the platform with many quickly resetting their passwords under the assumption that they had been hacked.

A number of users from across Northern Ireland took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter to check if other users were facing the same issues.

Many users reported that they were getting a “session expired” or “unexpected error” message.

The cause of the issue is currently unknown and we await more information on when access to accounts will be restored.

Facebook and Instagram’s parent company Meta have said that they are aware of the issue and are working on fixing it.
