French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has announced his arrival on the BeReal social network, a platform created in 2020 by two French entrepreneurs. Attal made the announcement on his Instagram and TikTok accounts on February 6 with a simple greeting on his first BeReal post. His Instagram post received 34,000 likes and his TikTok exceeded 200,000, reflecting the significant attention the move garnered online.
BeReal: A New Social Network
BeReal is gaining popularity, especially among the 18-24 age demographic. The network prompts users to share a spontaneous photo using the phone’s front and rear cameras at random times during the day. This unique approach aims to promote authenticity and spontaneity. The platform has seen a significant increase in monthly visitors in France and has also gained traction in the United States, with 13% of adolescents using it.
Attracting Celebrities and Brands
Recently, BeReal opened its doors to celebrities and brands. This move has attracted names such as the Paris Saint-Germain football club, singers like Niall Horan and Joe Jonas, as well as companies like Adidas, Puma, and PlayStation. Following this new feature for public figures, Attal was able to create a profile on BeReal.
Technical Glitch
However, the Prime Minister’s venture into this new social media realm was not without issues. On the day following his announcement, his BeReal profile became invisible or inaccessible. The overwhelming number of access attempts led to server saturation, causing this technical glitch. Attal addressed this issue on Instagram, responding to a user’s concern about being unable to find the Prime Minister’s account on BeReal.
