A GIRL from Caversham has now raised nearly £7,000 for charity by selling her paintings as greetings cards in local shops.
Amelie Turnbull, nine, started painting with watercolours in 2022 and was given an order of 150 cards by Nood Stores in Caversham.
Her eldest brother George, 17, has complex needs, so Amelie has been donating 50 per cent of her profits to two charities which support him — Camp Mohawk, a multi-functional day centre for children with special needs and their families in Wargrave, and the Music Club in Wallingford, which offers music sessions for children with disabilities and additional needs.
Her mother Davina said: “Camp Mohawk offers a place for the whole family to enjoy being out of the house together. It is a very special place as it is in a quiet woodland setting, which creates a sense of calmness, and the staff are always supportive when they can see a family is in need of a little help to enjoy their visit.
“This year has been full of highs and lows for the family as George was critically unwell last summer and after 10 weeks in hospital made it home in September where the family have been treasuring every day back together. In October, Amelie was surprised with a Pride of Reading Award for inspiring other young people. She is so grateful to all the people who believe in her and support her through selling the cards in their stores.
“With particular thanks for their continued support of Little Amelie Art to the Marlow Bookshop, Fidget & Bob at Kennet Island, H’Artisan in Wargrave and Nood Stores.”
Amelie said: “I feel proud of myself to be able to donate so much money.”
Her other brother Harry said: “I am proud of my little sister helping the charities she supports and seeing what it means to them.”
