Students at IIIT-A to analyse data of social media platforms

Prayagraj: The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) has started the study of ‘Social Network Analysis’ as an optional subject in the MTech course. Under this course, future technocrats will feel the pulse of the market with the help of social media. Along with election surveys and trends, accurate assessment of political calculations, market and assessment of criminal activities will be part of course work.
While all the students of MTech IT branch have chosen ‘Social Network Analysis’ as an optional subject most of the students of Electronics and Communication (EC) have also shown interest in this subject.Prof Brijendra Singh of the IT department of the institute said that all seats in this optional subject are full. Prof Singh said that the network of criminals can be identified by analyzing social networks. With the help of studying their mutual links, their criminal activities and the people involved in them can be identified. This technique will also prove to be very useful for the police.
He added that in the subject of ‘Social Network Analysis’, along with the methods of analyzing the data of social networks, related apps and software will be developed. Prof Singh said that a large number of users of social media network platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Whatsapp, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Reddit. . He said that India has the highest number of Facebook users in the world at 340 million, and students will be analysing this data available on these platforms.
