INDIANAPOLIS — It’s been nearly one week since our last updates from IMPD on the Mitthoefer murders.
Thursday night, IMPD told FOX59/CBS4 that the department has no updates on the case.
But that’s not stopping community members from keeping the victims’ memories alive.
Every night for the past six months, Tracy Kaiser has been painting rocks in honor of east side crime victims.
FOX59/CBS4 caught up with her as she carefully took her fingernail polish brush to a rock for another victim, 52-year-old Marianne Weis.
“It was hard for me to find anything for Marianne like what colors that she may like because there’s not much said about her,” said Kaiser. “So I just went with pink and purple.”
Weis is one of two women who was murdered near 21st and Mitthoefer in the last two weeks.
Both Weis and Shannon Lassere, 58, were killed days apart and found 150 yards away from each other.
Crimes so horrible and filled with hate, Kaiser said the only way she knew how to give back was with love.
She also painted a rock for Lassere’s family too.
“I just wanted to be nice to people,” said Kaiser. “It doesn’t take much for everybody to just be kind and do something thoughtful for someone out of the blue for someone that you don’t know.”
Right now, IMPD said there are no updates in either case as detectives continue to search for Lassere and Weis’ killer.
And that’s exactly why Kaiser said she will continue to paint the rocks in hopes it will keep their memories alive.
“I don’t want them to be forgotten about and I want them to get closure. I want their families to get closure and all of Indianapolis because I know people are worried about it and concerned,” said Kaiser.
As for the investigation, police are not officially linking the cases, only saying the two women were killed in a similar manner.
The police report of Lassere’s death listed it as a stabbing.
IMPD is asking for any surveillance video from the time of the murders and for anyone with information to call crime stoppers at 317-262-tips.
