More than a decade ago, Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney made headlines for ordering a pint of beer at a pub and mixing it up with journalists.

Now, Carney is making waves again while he holds a can of Budweiser.
In 2012, it was widely believed Carney would quit the central bank and run for the Liberal leadership.
We all know that didn’t happen.
But a dozen years later, rumours are flying once more that the former Governor of the Bank of England will be a contender as Liberal leader should Justin Trudeau bail.
Several weeks back, Toronto Sun political columnist Brian Lilley questioned whether Carney knows how to speak to average Canadians and not just banker speak.
Well, Carney has responded — with a good, old beer pic on X.
He attended a country music festival this week in Quebec, and shared a photo of himself cheesing while wearing an Edmonton Oilers jersey and holding a can of Bud, posing next to a couple of saddles outside a bar with beer tents in the background.
“Festival Country de Val-des-Monts,” he wrote on the social media platform. “If you can’t be in YEG, the next best warm up for a big night in the Stanley Cup finals.”

The Conservatives previously called out Carney for “positioning for Trudeau’s job” and “attempting to get as much media attention as possible.”
Were they right?
Many Canadians are hoping not, with social media reacting harshly to Carney’s recent social media share, questioning whether he will take over if/when Trudeau quits.
“Oh my God. You really are running, aren’t you?” one person asked.

Another remarked: “You make Michael Ignatieff seem charismatic,” referring to the former Liberal Party of Canada leader. “Don’t bother, Mark. Stick with grifting, lies and hypocrisy. It pays well.”
A third person joked, “See! I’m relatable! And I’ve got a jersey, from a sports team. See those people over there? None of them are even wearing suits or gowns! I’m just a regular guy wearing a brand new playoff jersey over my tailored shirt!”
A fourth asked, “Omg this whole photo is so sad, it just screams ‘I’m trying too hard,’” while another user commented, “Look guys, he’s just like us.”
