
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The North Carolina attorney general is making his way to the mountains for a town hall to discuss ways of keeping kids safe online.
The office of Attorney General Josh Stein announced he would be hosting a social media town hall in partnership with Buncombe County Schools and Asheville City Schools on Tuesday, Feb. 27. The event is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Buncombe County Board of Education headquarters, located at 175 Bingham Road in Asheville.

Parents, teachers, caregivers and local leaders are invited to the event.
In a press release, Attorney General Stein, who is running for governor in the 2024 election, said Tuesday’s event will serve as a way to speak with parents and local leaders about best ways to “better protect our kids online.”

“Research has linked the increased amount of time on social media platforms to mental health damage and increased risk of self-harm and suicide,” the AG’s release said. “Social media can also expose children to content that depicts abuse and disturbing sexual images, which can warp their understanding of healthy and safe relationships.”
