- The three references were created in collaboration with artist Kentaro Yoshida.

When Japanese artist Kentaro Yoshida moved to Australia at the age of 18, he quickly gained a newfound understanding of time itself. With his latest artwork, “Time Goes by Forever,” Yoshida explores the concept in vivid detail, bringing his unique sense of purpose to life in a bold, new way.
Not only does the artwork inspire an emotional response, but it also serves as the conceptual foundation for three limited edition Seiko 5 Sports watches. Each model integrates nature-based details with Yoshida’s signature motifs to deliver an expert fusion of unique artistry and traditional design.
Yoshida currently lives and works in the northern beaches of Sydney, meaning he’s never too far away from the blazing sun and its natural cycles. It’s no surprise that the artist’s quirky and colourful paintings so often capture the vibrancy and humour of Aussie beach culture. However, for this latest collaboration with Seiko, Yoshida went well beyond the coastline, drawing upon Australia’s variety of landscapes as well as our abundance of unique lifestyles and cultures.
As a result, the Seiko 5 Sports x Kentaro Yoshida Limited Edition collection pays horological tribute to the Australasian experience at large. So does the overarching concept of “Time Goes by Forever,” which incorporates not just the rising and setting of the sun, but plant cycles, cloud patterns, wave movements, and other natural wonders. It doesn’t take much of a leap to extend the same theme to watches, which quintessentially document the passage of time.
Expanding upon its conceptual underpinnings, the Seiko 5 Sports x Kentaro Yoshida Limited Edition collection draws further inspiration from nature’s elements. Each timepiece, in fact, derives its name from a different aspect of nature.
- Ref. SRPL25K “Clouds & Sky” – with a dark chromatic dial that conjures a deep sky at night.
- Ref. SRPL26K “Sun, Moon, & Beach” – comes fully dressed in yellow gold.
- Ref. SRPL27K “Wild Plants & Flowers” – hence the stunning green dial adorned with the image of a blooming flower.
Take the influence of nature and combine it with Kentaro Yoshida’s iconic skull-and-skeleton motif (complete with the artist’s signature logo on the exhibition case back), and you have a limited collection that’s every bit as distinctive as it sounds. As part of the Seiko 5 Sports series, each model also delivers superlative accuracy along with Hardlex glass protection and water resistance up to 100m. The cases are stainless steel and the automatic movement is Seiko’s own Calibre 4R36 with a power reserve of 41 hours.
Every model in the Seiko 5 Sports x Kentaro Yoshida Limited Edition collection is individually numbered and limited to just 500 units. The watches are being offered at a suggested retail price of AUD$695 and you can purchase one now through Seiko boutiques and online. Starting 17th February, the collection will also be available at select Australasian retailers.
