As Latto‘s career continues to ascend to astronomical heights, she is vowing to never switch up on the artists who are still in their budding phases. On Tuesday (Dec. 27), the “Big Energy” spitter clapped back at a fan who suggested she should stop working with rappers who are lesser known than her.
The user wrote on X: “Girl we love you but you need to stop doing collabs with these unknown artists enough is enough, as fans we want to see you win and this will get you nowhere and a latto feature is losing its value. no more babydrills, luh tylers and whoever this is next era please.”
The post was in reference to an upcoming collaboration Latto has with Anycia, which was previewed at the former’s birthday party last night. The star quickly caught wind of the comment and defended her choice to work with upcoming artists, recalling the chapter of her career when artists “acted too big” for her.
“Y’all be getting besides y’all self,” she wrote. She also explained she connected with Anycia because they’re from the same region. “Shawty from the south side & she hard af Idc bout allat. I was an ‘unknown artist’ before and mfs acted too big for me. Stream when we drop.”
Day one Latto fans can recall how the “Muwop” artist has been chasing her dreams for over a decade. She was even a contestant on Jermaine Dupri’s reality TV series The Rap Game in 2016, where she went on to win the show’s first season.
Since then, Big Latto dropped off her debut album, Queen of Da Souf, in August 2020. The project housed her breakout hit, Bitch From Da Souf, and additional features from Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, City Girls, and more. She followed that project with 777 two years later.
