Rock icons Pink Floyd have sold the rights to their music, name and likeness.
The British band reportedly inked a deal with Sony, selling its catalog for $400 million. The deal only includes rights for Pink Floyd’s recorded music, not any of its songwriting because song writing credits are held by individual writers.
Pink Floyd’s catalog features classic albums like “Dark Side of the Moon,” “The Wall,” “Wish You Were Here,” “Animals,” “Meddle,” “Piper at the Gates of Dawn” and “More.” The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
The iconic rock group had reportedly been in talks to sell its catalog for years, fielding meetings with companies like Warner Music, BMG and Hipgnosis.
The deal was done despite a longtime feud between former bandmates David Gilmour and Roger Waters.
Pink Floyd joins iconic acts like Queen, KISS, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and more in selling their catalogs in recent years. Some of the largest deals have included Springsteen’s $500 million sale, Queen’s $1.2 billion sale, KISS’ $300 million sale and Katy Perry’s $225 million sale.
The legendary band was founded by Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright in London in 1965. Gilmour joined the group in 1967.
