Letter: 17,600 people visited Alexandria’s Saturday Art Market this summer

To the editor:

School has started – fall sports are happening and once more, Saturday Art Market has wrapped up another highly successful year.

On behalf of Mimi Seykora, Bill Glade, and myself, we would like to send a sincere thank you to all our art vendors, food vendors, musicians and everyone who stopped by Big Ole Park. Despite some “iffy” weather, we managed to have 13 weeks of phenomenal sales and attendance.

This was our fourth year. We have had an amazing attendance growth – 11,000-plus the second year, 13,000-plus last year and an unbelievable 17,600 people this summer. We haven’t worn out our trusty clicker counter yet but it was working overtime this summer.

People have come from 10 different countries, almost all the 50 states, and around 90 different towns in the State of Minnesota. Alexandria is a DESTINATION and Saturday Art Market is on their radar along with our great friends at the Farmer’s Market.

We have applied for our own 501C3 designation and are working on a huge collaborative project on site at Big Ole Park.

Thanks to the city, the local media, downtown merchants and individuals who have supported this adventure. We could not move forward without financial support from businesses, Explore Alexandria, REA Operation Round UP and individuals.

We are grateful and look forward to sharing some new exciting news with you soon. See you in May of 2025.
