Makeup artist shares best technique for women over 40 that stops skin ‘creasing’

Wearing makeup on mature skin can be a challenge to master, with many full-coverage products making wrinkles and fine lines more visible.

As your skin changes with age, foundation and concealer may appear dry and cakey instead of nourishing, plumping, and firming.

A celebrity makeup artist has shared a trick to achieve flawless skin with minimal product to achieve a youthful and glowing look that doesn’t make product “crease”.

Katie Jane Hughes, 40, who is from England but lives in New York, explained “the best trick I could ever teach you” when it comes to applying concealer.

In a video posted on TikTok, she said: “This trick is going to be about concealer or foundation. The top tip is priming the brush.

“All you’re going to need is a full coverage concealer and a concealer brush AKA an eyeshadow brush.”

She added: “Just so you know what you’re getting yourself into, this is an addictive trick. You won’t be able to stop doing it when you try. And it will give your skin the most flawless finish all the while you won’t look like you’ve got any make-up on.”

She explained that in order for this to work, you should wash your face with a cloth before bed to help exfoliate the skin.

Then, dab some concealer on the back of your hand and “smoosh” the bristles of your eyeshadow brush into it until the product is almost gone.

Finally, take the brush and gently sweep it on your face where you want coverage.

She added that this trick is great to hide any “redness and discolouration” around the nose and mouth.

“This is probably the most viral trick I’ve ever taught. People have tried it have come back to me and been like ‘that is amazing’,” Katie said.

She added: “If you put thick foundation around your nose it will in fact crease quicker.”
