New business, Home Ec Express, brings ‘lost art of home economics’ to Owasso

Jamie Umphenour is making the most out of her talented role as a Jill of all trades.

The Owasso entrepreneur recently started a new business, Home Ec Express, and cut a ribbon with the Owasso Chamber on Thursday, Nov. 16.

Umphenour’s longtime experience as a chef, seamstress and teacher led her to kick off the company, which is devoted to bringing back the “lost art of home economics,” according to her tagline.

“I’m one of the last generations of those that actually went through home (economic) classes, and there’s a big need for that still,” Umphenour said. “It’s my joy, and I love to teach.”

Umphenour offers a range of resources that include financial coaching, virtual and in-person life skill classes, cooking and personal chef services and alterations and custom sewing.

“The heart behind what I do would be helping find my clients find joy and confidence in becoming self-sufficient,” Umphenour said. “My purpose is to have them walk away feeling they have the ability to duplicate what they were taught.”

She said she is excited to get further involved in her hometown community and expand her services in the area.

“We’re slowing growing, kind of getting our feet under us in Owasso, and it’s been super fun,” Umphenour said.
