New DuBois business stitches together art, gifts in time for holidays

DuBOIS — This holiday season a new store at 102 E. Scribner Ave. in DuBois stitches together supplies, local art, scented candles and holiday gifts with a unique local flair.

Tiffany’s Stitchery began its holiday open house on Nov. 29 promising a collection of local, homespun, and artful gifts and supplies. Tiffany Chappel opened Tiffany’s Stitchery because cross-stitch is her passion, and the nearest shop is hours away. Beginning as an online venture, the physical Tiffany’s Stitchery hopes to bring supplies to local stitchers and provide an outlet for local artists.

“Local needlework shops support many other small businesses across the U.S. and worldwide by carrying artists’ charted designs and dyers’ fabrics and flosses,” Chappel said. “The activity of counted cross-stitch allows us to become very familiar with the artistic styles of chart designers. We can recreate a design exactly as it’s charted or change elements to suit our tastes.”

The holiday open house continues this weekend with an Into the Woods showcase highlighting holiday decorations and crafts from local artists. Into the Woods was part of Brockway’s Christmas gathering for many years. Started by Chappel’s mother, Janet Orris, in 2015, Into the Woods was a staple on Kearney Road for several Christmases before moving locations a few years ago. Now, the art and décor will be featured in Tiffany’s Stitchery. Decorations like Christmas bulbs, garland, rustic lights and more join pet-friendly candles by Yellow Lab Candle Company, gifts from Evan’s DeeLights, and original art by Orris.

The house itself is a piece of DuBois history. Built in 1884, the house on Scribner was just across the street from the end of the Great Fire of 1888. Chappel and Orris restored the house, which was once owned by J.E. Long, retaining many of the original design elements.

The shop will be open year-round, where it offers locals a chance to see the products they need before they buy.

“I do my best to represent the colors on my website, but opening the shop gives stitchers the opportunity to choose their fabric and floss in person,” Chappel said.

The holiday open house continues until Dec. 29. Tiffany’s Stitchery is open from noon to 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from noon to 2 p.m. on Sundays. The website at www.TiffanysStitchery.com is open all the time, but the 2025 regular shop hours are still to be determined.

“Come in and shop and sample the wassail during the holidays,” Chappel said.
