New LCC exhibition showcases local women painters

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A new exhibition of young women artists opens today and runs through Nov. 2 at the Ho’ikeakea Gallery at Leeward Community College.

Curator Kosta Kulundzic and artist Crissia Vaughn joined HNN’s Sunrise to talk about the new “Bitter Sweet” exhibition, which showcases art from some of the most important and impactful young women painters in Hawaii.

“This exhibition highlights the dualities present in the creations of this incredible woman: the alluring and enchanting aesthetics juxtaposed with a profound undercurrent of melancholy, nostalgia, and occasional bitterness,” Kulundzic said.

“I have always been very impressed by the quality and scope of women’s creativity from Hawai’i. Whether in the exhibitions I have seen or in the various art departments, I have consistently observed women tackling monumental works with incredible conviction,” he added.

The public is invited to an opening reception today from 5-8 p.m. at the Art Building, AM 101 at Leeward Community College.
