As the ribbon is cut, on the corner of Alston Avenue and Lawson Street stands one of Durham’s newest additions at nearly 80,000 square feet. This marks a new era of opportunities for local students.

“Today signifies a monumental stride in our relentless pursuit of academic excellence,” NCCU Chancellor Johnson Akinleye said.

On Wednesday, North Carolina Central opened its brand new, $40 million School of Business building. It features innovative facilities like a trading room.

“As we enter the corridors and the classrooms of this new building, I am filled with excitement and enthusiasm for the extraordinary possibilities that are ahead of us,” NCCU School of Business Dean Anthony Nelson said.

“The programs that we will design are going to be phenomenal,” Nelson said. “If you think we’ve done something in the past three, four years, just wait.”

Members of the Durham community can also benefit from the new space, providing support for small businesses and low-income residents.

“Where there is vision, there is going to be the accomplishment of a dream,” Akinleye said.
