WAOW is the oldest juried women’s art group in the United States and has been dedicated to helping aspiring women artists promote their fine artworks in primarily Western subject matter. With more than 300 members across the United States and several other countries, WAOW has continually worked to encourage technical and professional excellence, change the omission of women in the arts, and develop a spirit of unity among members.
The common thread of WAOW artists is the passion for their work and a desire to express the joy and beauty of the world around them. During the organization’s existence, WAOW members have collectively made their mark on the art world while supporting and promoting each other in a spirit of unity. They have done this as a team of professionals, with plans to continue the journey together.

WAOW was founded in 1971 in Norco, California, by a small group of women wanting to network as professionals and compete in the world of art. At that time, the Cowboy Artists of America were exhibiting in numerous prestigious venues, but it was difficult to break into the realm of art as a woman painter or sculptor.
By pooling their efforts and promoting their careers with advertising and exhibitions like this special presentation at the Phippen Museum, WAOAW soon became known for its high caliber of artists and distinctive Western style. And that original intention and tradition continues today.
So, make plans now to experience this fascinating collection of museum-quality fine art by some of the nation’s most talented Western artists.
The Phippen Museum is located only a few minutes north of downtown Prescott at 4701 Highway 89 North. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for Seniors/AAA/Veterans, $6 for students, and free for museum members and children twelve and under. For additional information on this or any other event at the museum, please call (928)778-1385, or visit their website at phippenartmuseum.org.
