In a significant crackdown against anti-social elements in the city, the Crime Branch has arrested four people for circulating terrorising videos, reels, and photos in the name of Gaja Marne, an on-record criminal. The Crime Branch has taken this action after extracting information about videos, reels, etc.,. that glorify crime and spread fear and terror in society. Police found that as many as 13 Instagram accounts are active in the name of criminal Gaja Marne.
In this regard, the Crime Branch has registered a case against four individuals. The names of those accused are Akshay Nivrutti Shinde (age 20, a resident of Nimgaon Khalu, Taluka Shrigonda, District Ahilyanagar), Siddharth Vivekanand Jadhav (age 19, a resident of Mohammed Wadi, Hadapsar), Sahil Shadul Sheikh (age 19, a resident of Sumba, Dharashiv), and Irfan Hasan Sheikh (age 19, a resident of Sumba, Dharashiv).
In the backdrop of increasing glorification of crimes on social media, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had ordered action against those criminals. Accordingly, Senior Police Inspector Vijay Kumbhar of the Anti-Extortion Squad had asked the officers and Amaldars of the squad to extract information about such individuals.
Upon investigation, police officers found numerous Instagram pages on the name of criminal Gaja Marne, about his terror activities, videos about his convoy and videos about him using drones on social media. In those videos, often people were using criminal content and terrorising people through it. Police found that such videos and photos have been circulated to spread fear and terror in society by glorifying crime.
Therefore, Police Amaldar Prashant Shinde gave a complaint against these 13 Instagram account holders at Kothrud Police Station. Accordingly, police take action. Police said that action against such anti-social elements would continue in the future as well.
