An interactive art installation bringing light up zoetropes to our Chattanooga riverfront and immersing viewers into several pieces of Quebec literature, is now on display through April 14th.
“Loop–” which is a combination of light up cylinders, the handcar, and traditional music box– is produced by Quebec artists Ekumen in collaboration with Quartier des Spectacles of Montreal.
As viewers sit in the loops, they are able to move a bar and make film-like pictures come to life. With music and lights viewers can get immersed in these pieces of literature. Each loop also contains a display noting the piece of writing on display and its history.
This art installation was brought to Chattanooga by River City Company who also hosted the Rock the Riverfront festival this past weekend at Ross’s Landing, featuring local vendors, music, art installations and more.
UTC student and Rock the Riverfront visitor Jaliyah Cunningham stated, “It was cool to see that the community was brought together through the loop installation and I enjoyed reading the stories at each loop.”
Esther Lovingood, communication and program coordinator for River City Company, explained how the nonprofit River City Company works to help with economic development in downtown Chattanooga.
Lovingood also noted that Rock the Riverfront helps to bring attention to our scenic Chattanooga riverfronts as part of the One Riverfront Plan. This plan will help to develop and evolve riverfront parks in Chattanooga.
