The Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office is starting a friendly initiative to check in on local seniors.
The Senior Assistance and Friendly Enforcement (S.A.F.E.) initiative allows seniors 60 years of age or older to receive a daily phone call, Monday through Friday, from a representative of the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office.
“A simple phone call to some means the world to our senior citizens who do not have family or loved ones to check on their well-being throughout the week,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post.
Sheriff Darren Pierce says he recognizes how important it is to care for the people who have cared for all of us.
“Our seniors have built the foundation of this community. Now it’s our turn to give back,” Pierce said. “The SAFE program is a way to ensure they feel seen, heard, and valued every single day.”
