{KXLG – Sioux Falls, SD} Several recent news reports and social media screenshots explain a story about an employee at the Sioux Falls School District who was terminated for sharing a controversial post on Facebook. The post in question was related to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, and it led to the swift dismissal of the employee.
The Sioux Falls School District emphasized that the staff member’s statement did not align with the district’s values and was not condoned in any way. The district reiterated its commitment to providing a safe and respectful learning environment for all students and staff.
The social media post in question was attributed to an individual known as Cassie Martin on Facebook. The post, which stated, “Shoot—if only he would’ve had his scope sighted correctly,” garnered significant attention in South Dakota and across the country. Although the individual later removed the post and issued an apology, stating that it was not meant to be offensive, the repercussions were already in motion.
Further investigation revealed that the employee’s name is Cassandra Oleson, and she held the position of Special Behavior Facilitator at Ben Reifel Middle School. Following the incident, the school district faced considerable criticism, with numerous comments on their social media posts revolving around Oleson’s actions.
This serves as a reminder of the impact of our words, especially on public platforms like social media, and the importance they can make in all aspects of our lives.
