Social media claims of ICE raids in OKC disputed by law enforcement, lawmakers

Some posts on social media claim ICE raids are happening in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

But, law enforcement agencies and lawmakers are telling people not to believe everything they see online.

A nonprofit called the Community Response Network (CRNOK) claims it’s happening at homes, businesses and construction sites.

Fernando Baquera explains what he’s been seeing.

“There’s real concerns out in the community,” Baquera said. “In a moment, people’s lives are changed. So, people are kind of living in fear.”

Baquera drives around the metro documenting what he says he believes are ICE agents.

“We’ve kind of been following them for several months now, so we know their patterns. We know how they move. They move quickly.”

The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office addressed at least one social media post going around, saying the pictured officers weren’t ICE agents and are actually SWAT team members.

State Sen. Michael Brooks-Jimenez (D-Oklahoma City) also commented about the posts he’s seeing online.

“Especially with what’s happening in Los Angeles, people are getting nervous,” State Sen. Brooks-Jimenez said. “They’re anxious. With misinformation and disinformation, it’s important you don’t believe everything you see on social media, and also that you don’t share it with someone else unless you’re able to confirm that’s it’s true because then it creates a bigger effect. Often times, these things aren’t correct.”

True information or not, Baquera says there’s lots of fear and confusion spreading.

“It’s absolutely crazy this is what the United States looks like in 2025,” Baquera said. “People living in fear. People fearing for their safety.”

Amid all the confusion, an immigration enforcement protest is happening a week from Saturday in downtown Oklahoma City.
