MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A 13-year-old boy was hospitalized after a violent attack outside Treadwell Middle School on Monday.
Memphis Police say the assault stemmed from threats made on social media after a basketball game. The group of attackers, aged 12 to 16, carried out what they called a “WWE WrestleMania Jump Festival,” punching, kicking, and stabbing the victim.
The attackers were not students of Treadwell Middle, Memphis-Shelby County Schools confirmed.
Superintendent Marie Feagins assured parents that the district is increasing safety measures, stating, “We are fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and staff.”
Parents in the community say responsibility begins at home, urging daily conversations with children about appropriate behavior online and in person.
The victim sustained non-critical injuries. MSCS is calling on parents to reinforce the importance of safe and responsible actions to prevent incidents like this in the future.
