Social network X will start flagging parody accounts

Social network X has announced that it will start labeling parody and satirical profiles to distinguish them from other accounts. Individual posts will also be labeled.

“We designed these labels to increase transparency and to ensure that users are not deceived into thinking such accounts belong to the entity being parodied,” X said in a statement.

In the past, users, including news anchors, have mistaken posts from parody accounts for genuine statements made by real people or organizations.

The new marks will appear in the near future and the platform will announce the date of their appearance separately.

According to the authenticity policy, platform X prohibits the creation of fake accounts but allows parody accounts, provided they do not violate the rules.
