Social networking: the City of Paris leaves the X network, formerly Twitter

In a post on the Instagram app, the city of Paris has announced that it will be leaving the X network, sometime in January 2025.

The world of social networks has been in upheaval for the past few months: between the potential ban on the TikTok app in the United States and the departure of several French regions or departments from the X network, there have been many changes since billionaire Elon Musk bought what used to be Twitter, in October 2022.

After the Landes department and the Brittany region, which announced that they would be leaving X in mid-January 2025, it’s the turn of the city of Paris to follow suit. In fact, the Paris City Council is no longer happy with the application, lamenting the reduction in “the reach of factual and objective messages” and the fact that the network “feeds hate speech and misinformation” due to the lack of moderation on the latter. So, as of January 20, the city of Paris will be definitively leaving the X network (formerly Twitter), as announced in a post published on the city’s Instagram page on Thursday, January 16.

However, the city will remain active on its other social networks, including Instagram and Facebook, to keep Parisians up to date with news from the French capital.
