St Helens Borough Council’s Arts Service, in collaboration with Stuttgart’s Cultural Department and GEDOK Women Artists’ Studios/Cultural Centre, is offering an artist twinning opportunity for St Helens-based women artists.
The selected St Helens artist will reside at GEDOK, Stuttgart, for June and/or July 2025, while a GEDOK-associated artist will visit St Helens later this year.
This initiative builds on St Helens’ longstanding relationship with Stuttgart, marked by prior artist exchange projects between GEDOK and St Helens.
The new exchange is funded by public money from Arts Council England and Stuttgart Council’s Cultural Department.
St Helens artists are encouraged to go online for more information about the studios and cultural centre.
The residency is open to women artists living in the St Helens borough, with the caveat that GEDOK’s building is not wheelchair accessible and offers shared bathroom facilities.
All creative disciplines are welcome to apply, including visual arts, photography, media arts, creative writing, theatre, music, dance, or interdisciplinary arts, albeit with some restrictions.
Applicants can choose between a one-month residency in June or July, or a two-month residency covering both months.
Selected artists will receive free accommodation and a stipend of £2,500 for a one-month stay or £4,500 for two months to cover living expenses and travel to Stuttgart.
Upon returning, the chosen artist must share their experience via a blog post and/or a presentation/discussion as part of St Helens’ Arts in Libraries programme.
Applications must be submitted in PDF format no later than 9.30am on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
