The 2024 Grammys Were a Celebration of Women Artists and Women Performers

From beginning to end, the 2024 Grammy Awards was a showcase for some of the greatest living women musical performers, spanning generations of artists.

Dua Lipa kicked off the night’s festivities with an electric performance of two new songs, ‘Training Season’ and ‘Houdini.’ Olivia Rodrigo gave a blood-soaked rendition of ‘Vampire.’ Billie Eilish took home Song of the Year for the ‘Barbie’ movie’s ‘What Was I Made For?’

Several of the Grammys’ other most prestigious categories also went to women: Best New Artist (Victoria Monét), Record of the Year (‘Flowers,’ Miley Cyrus), and Album of the Year (‘Midnights,’ Taylor Swift).

Tracy Chapman made a rare public showing, delivering an amazing performance of her classic 1988 hit ‘Fast Car’ with Luke Combs. With her wins, Miley Cyrus became a first-time Grammy recipient, and the legendary Joni Mitchell made her first-ever appearance as a performer in the award show’s 66-year history.

During the In Memoriam segment, Fantasia Barrino and Annie Lennox lent their considerable talents for tributes to two other incredible women artists, the late Tina Turner and Sinéad O’Connor, respectively.

Several other high profile women also made a mark on the proceedings as presenters, including Mariah Carey, Kacey Musgraves, and Celine Dion, who has recently stepped away from touring after being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome.

Oh, and in addition to cleaning up the Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album categories, Taylor also teased a brand new album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ in the process.
