The Business of Art with Faron Manuel, Founder of One Contemporary Gallery

Faron Manuel, a former student and class officer at Clark Atlanta University, is opening his first art gallery this weekend. One Contemporary Gallery will reside at 395 Edgewood Avenue. The gallery will focus on up-and-coming artists from our community. Faron welcome back to The Local Take.

Manuel has worked with the arts community since he was a student at the CAU Museum. I asked how he came to the decision to open his own art gallery. He shared that he has worked with private clients and while working with a client he was asked what he would do with an available space in The B Complex on Edgewood. The One Contemporary Gallery was born.

I asked Manuel about the business side of art and how the digital environment has changed. He speaks about digital art allowing more people to access art in comfortable environments. He reminds us that art can be appreciated in digital format, but artists create for the human eye and the digital experience cannot capture everything. It is important to remember that enjoying art in person is the best way.

Manuel shares that the first exhibition The Start of Something features up-and-coming artists including Stephanie Brown, Demetri Burke, Chrissy Brimmage, Jurell Cayetano, Ariel Dannielle, Trey Dowell, Sayma Hossain, Honey Pierre, Ellex Swavoni, and Jasmine Nicole Williams. The opening begins on Friday, January 17th through the weekend.
