DETROIT LAKES — Abi Kramer’s love affair with minerals is contagious.
“There are over 200 minerals on this puzzle, and I could name them all. It’s been really fun to learn,” she said as she pointed out the many minerals on a puzzle box.
“This is mine, these are all my work, and this is the very first one I ever drew, and it’s crazy that it’s still on my prints because that was … eight years ago,” Kramer said of a poster full of her colorful mineral drawings that hangs in her studio.
In her Detroit Lakes studio, she rattles off the names of minerals and rocks that have become part of her daily art life.
Kramer sketches rocks she finds, or buys, or that people send her, then paints those sketches, turning them into stunning works of art.

“I am a color-holic, really,” she said.
Everything from garnets and emeralds to agates and quartz, that work has been turned into a vibrant online business.
Kramer’s work is featured on greeting cards, posters, stickers and a puzzle.
The 1,000-piece project features her detailed sketches and paintings of minerals.
“I sent almost 30 out just last week,” she said.
Kramer has been a fan of stones and minerals since she was a toddler.
“This is one of my favorites, because these are rocks that I have actually found all over the country and actually around the world,” she said of a printed picture of rocks.
But never did she imagine her love for it would become a career.

“It’s huge that I can be at home, I can homeschool my kids, I can be present with my family and my life and still get to follow my passion. I can’t put into words how amazing that is,” she said.
