Country music has been more popular than ever in America over the last few years. This can be clearly seen by sales and streams of country songs in the past 10 years.
The Only 8 Country Songs to Ever Sell More Than 10 Million Copies
In music, it’s a status symbol that very few songs or artists get to attain. A proverbial arm patch, if you will: Diamond certification by the Recording Industry Association of America, or RIAA, certifying sales of 10 million units or more.
Sales of song singles have been tallied since 1958 by the RIAA, but it has only been since the 2000s that a country song has managed to get certified Diamond for selling more than 10 million copies.
It took until 2016 for a country song to make it to Diamond certification, when Florida Georgia Line did it with their massively successful song, “Cruise.”
It seems that once that song broke through the barrier of Diamond certification, it opened the door for country music. Since “Cruise” sold more than 10 million units, there have been seven other country songs certified Diamond by the RIAA.
