SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Officials with the Sioux City School District are investigating another threat made on social media.
This is the third high school in the district to receive this message this week.
In a statement from the district, they said they sent out a message to families of North High School on Thursday morning.
The district was made aware of a non-specific social media threat circulating in a Snapchat group of East High School students. This follows yesterday’s incidents at East High and Middle, North Middle, West High, and similar incidents from a week prior.
KTIV asked why this message was sent to each school on different dates.
A spokesperson for the district said the threat had not reached families and students at North High until Wednesday evening and notified the district on Thursday, triggering a warning about this threat.
She added that the threat in question does not target any school in particular but is reaching students at all SCCSD high schools.
The district will continue to report each threat to keep the community informed of what is happening when it comes to the safety of the students.
On Tuesday a threat was made in a Snapchat group with North Middle students, then hours later a similar situation was reported by a West High student in a similar group.
In those cases, the district released a statement saying they were very grateful to the student who saw the threat and reported it to their parent. The district also says any students responsible for making threatening posts or reposting and resharing them face disciplinary action and possible criminal charges depending on their role in the incident.
The District is investigating but does not feel the threat is credible. They say that students and staff are safe, and the school day is continuing as normal.
They remind students and parents that if they see or hear something that makes them concerned about the safety of the schools, they can report it directly to school administrators or through the District’s website.
