Threads could become as popular as X, as latest numbers revealed

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has for the first time revealed the daily number of Threads users, stating that there are now more than 100 million daily active users. It’s also been suggested that the current trajectory means that the app could catch up with the social network formerly known as Twitter.

Zuckerberg is likely aiming to fight back against the growing popularity of Bluesky, also citing a new milestone in monthly active users …

Latest number of Threads users

Both numbers were revealed in a Threads post, naturally.

Threads strong momentum continues — now 300M+ monthly actives and 100M+ daily actives

The post wasn’t particularly well received, with a number of responses objecting to Meta’s $1M donation to Trump’s inaugural fund.

The numbers were echoed by Threads chief Adam Mosseri, who thanked users for their support.

A big thank you to this rapidly growing community — we’re making something special together, and we’ll focus on making it even better next year.

The Verge notes that Bluesky appears to have just over 25 million users in total, though we don’t know how many of them are active on either a daily or monthly basis. Either way, it’s clear that Threads so far remains a far more popular platform.

Could catch up with X/Twitter

Social Media Today suggests that the current trajectory could see Threads catch up with X.

It took Threads 10 months to go from 100 million users to 200 million. It’s now risen to 300 million users in less than half that time. Social platform growth compounds in this way, because as more people post, more people sign up to join in the expanded conversation […]

At its current growth rate, Threads might actually catch X, which is currently sitting on 570 million monthly actives.

Threads is currently the most downloaded app on the App Store, ahead of ChatGPT and TikTok.
