Three local bands are set to perform in Chatham this Friday to raise money for mental health.
The Music for the Mind concert event is set for February 2 at the Portuguese Club.
“We’ve got 89 Next, Walkin’ 47, Big Shiny Toons, they’re all hitting the stage,” said founder Elisha Banks. “When they’re off and we’re switching bands, we’ve got the awesome DJ Shawn L. who’s going to spin tunes. So it’s literally four hours of non-stop music, non-stop fun, non-stop dancing.”
While this is their fourth concert, Banks said this is her fifth year running the event.
“This is not new this us,” she said. “We know how to do it, we’re seasoned at it now, and we’ve got it down to perfection. It’s going to be a big party at the Portuguese Club on February 2. We’re so excited, we’ve got an amazing band lineup, an amazing DJ.”
Banks added that the concert is always a lot of fun.
“The concert gives people something to look forward to, something to boost their mood, give a boost to their mental health, which is what we raise money for. So all the way around, the concert is just a huge staple for the Music for the Mind fundraiser, and we’re so excited that it’s back again,” Banks said.
Last year, Music for the Mind put on 14 different fundraisers and brought in $57,200. All of the money raised from the concert is going to a couple of local organizations.
“Family Service Kent and the KIDS Team program, and this year we added Chatham-Kent Victim Services,” said Banks.”Everything that we raise money for has the purpose of raising funds for child and adult mental health, and reducing barriers to accessing mental health resources within our community.”
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the bands start at 8. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased in advance. To order tickets, call 519-437-5254, or visit the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/musicforthemindck.
