The Valley of the Moon Music Festival

The 10th anniversary of the Valley of the Moon Music Festival is upon us, and its upcoming presentations will be spectacularly fitting for such an occasion.

With concerts held at Hanna Center, the festival will feature programs under the title “Music Across the Americas,” highlighting Latin American and European works, all blended with American compositions.

The Valley of the Moon Music Festival is unusual in that all compositions are played on period instruments, instruments constructed in the rough time period when the musical pieces were also composed. This degree of authenticity gives the listeners insight into what the composer was actually hearing when the piece was written.

The festival runs July 13-28. Visit valleyofthemoonmusic festival.org for the complete rundown.

Midsummer Mozart Festival

The Midsummer Mozart Festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer. A local presentation will take place at Buena Vista Winery on July 20 at 7 p.m.

Midsummer Mozart has been held at Buena Vista since 2017. This year pieces include Overture to La Clemenza di Tito, Piano Concerto no. 24 in C minor. John Wilson will be at the piano. Also included is the overture to Don Giovanni, Symphony no. 41 in C major.

The T-Shirt

The good people at Passaggio Winery in Glen Ellen have been scheduling local musical acts to play at their tasting room on Arnold Drive for a little over a year now. In an effort to support local musicians even more substantially and send a little dough to a worthy local non-profit, they are now selling a T-shirt with a simple message: Support Local Music.

The shirts are available at the tasting room Thursdays through Sundays. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this shirt will go to support the VIVO Youth Orchestra, headquartered at El Verano School.

Wearing this snappy shirt not only will make you look exceptionally cool but will support a well-deserved outfit assisting the musical development of Sonoma Valley’s young musicians.

The live music program at Passaggio this weekend includes performances on Saturday by Irish band Claddagh and Sunday by Mark Dennis. Each day, the music starts at 2 p.m.
