Trump complains that his portrait in Colorado State Capitol is distorted: ‘Take it down’

(Gray News) – President Donald Trump is unhappy with a portrait of himself hanging in the Colorado State Capitol next to other presidential portraits.

The president complained in a social media post Sunday that the portrait by artist Sarah Boardman is “distorted.”

“The artist also did President Obama, and he looks wonderful, but the one on me is truly the worst. She must have lost her talent as she got older,” Trump wrote.

The president also said he would “much prefer not having a picture than having this one.”

He accused Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, of “purposefully” distorting the painting and called on him to take it down.

Polis, however, was not behind the painting. It was commissioned in 2018 before Polis took office.

The painting was commissioned by Colorado Republicans. Kevin Grantham, a Republican who served as president of the Colorado Senate, raised more than $10,000 through GoFundMe for the painting, according to the Independent.

The portrait was unveiled in August 2019 during Trump’s first presidential term.
