Creative York is hosting a special exhibition titled “Unfolding Stories,” which showcases local female artists as part of its Kerlin Gallery Exhibit.
YORK, Pa. — The works of four female artists are being showcased at Creative York’s curatorial exhibit, “Unfolding Stories,” from now until May 10.
The event spotlights the vibrant talents of young women artists in Pennsylvania.
Artists include Callie Morton, Emily Reifsnyder, Aubrey Maurer, and Danielle Lillich.
“Aubrey Maurer is our guest curator, and she selected all the artwork for the exhibit and has been in contact with all the artists in the show,” said Mindy Christian, artistic director.
Pieces will be available for purchase, with each piece purchased going directly to the artists themselves, something Maurer believes is essential to enriching the cultural landscape of Pennsylvania.
“My inspiration behind this was trying to get more women artists more active in our community. I feel like there’s been a push recently in the Lancaster and York area, and that was kind of my goal for this assignment,” Maurer expressed.
Each artist is bringing something unique to the exhibition, including photography, ceramics and oil painting.
“I thought of my work first and then I thought of Emily’s and how we could push them together,” explained Maurer. “They are kind of similar in texture and color pallets. That is what led me to go with Callie Morton and Danielle Lillich because they all have a similar texture in pallets and almost the same narration,” Maurer explained.
Maurer hopes the gallery will give the artists more exposure through celebrating diverse artistic expressions.
“I think this also gives them outreach in a different area as well,” Maurer said.
The exhibit’s opening reception is on Thursday, April 3, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Admission is free, with meter and garage parking available.
