LOGAN, Utah — The 2025 Utah State University Summer Piano Festival will welcome young pianists from across the region for a dynamic week of music-making, collaboration and creativity. As part of the festival, the community is invited to attend a Faculty Concert and Guest Faculty Concert.
This year’s theme, “The Art of Collaboration,” focuses on the essential skill pianists need to make music with others — through ensemble playing, vocal accompaniment, and composing and arranging for multiple instruments. Students will engage in lessons, master classes, rehearsals and a final performance, all designed to deepen their musicianship and expand their artistic horizons.
“We designed this festival to help students experience the joy of making music with others,” said pianist and faculty member Kevin Olson, who is leading the way in putting the program together this year. “Collaboration is one of the most rewarding and transformative parts of being a musician.”
The Faculty Recital features USU faculty as well as guest artists from beyond the university.
“This concert will focus on piano in a collaborative setting with a variety of instruments as well as multi-piano repertoire,” Olson said. “You’ll hear some really beautiful music and get a sense of the musicians’ camaraderie on stage.”
The Guest Faculty Recital will showcase guest artist Tamami Honma alongside other invited musicians.
“Tamami is an incredible pianist with Logan roots and a wide-ranging career — she recently recorded all of Beethoven’s piano sonatas, which gives you a sense of both her skill and commitment to the craft,” Olson said. “She’ll be joined by other guest musicians from the Bay Area for a program that emphasizes chamber music and collaboration.”
Throughout the week, students engage deeply with faculty and guest artists through one-on-one lessons, group coaching sessions and masterclasses.
“These concerts are a nice opportunity to hear excellent live music right here in town. It’s casual, welcoming, and there’s something for everyone — whether you’re a musician or just someone who enjoys a good concert,” Olson said.
The Faculty Concert will be 7:30 p.m. June 10 in the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. The Guest Faculty Concert will take place 7:30 p.m. June 12 in the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall.
Admission is free for students, children under 18, and USU faculty and staff (with a ticket). Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for seniors. For more information, visit the website.
