Bhopal: A 32-year-old vegetable vendor, Salman Khan, became a local celebrity in his area following a viral video. His vegetable stall transformed into a spot where customers purchase produce and request photos with him.
It happened after SDOP Gwalior Santosh Patel visited Salman’s stall in Bhopal after a 14-year gap and shared their reunion video on social media. The footage gained significant attention on social media within hours.
“I don’t know how this happened. It feels good when customers come to the shop and request me for a selfie,” Salman shares with enthusiasm, describing the sudden influx of calls and visitors seeking photographs.
Salman operates his vegetable cart near Bijli Colony, Raisen Road in Bhopal. SDOP Patel, who previously resided in the same locality before joining the police force, recalls how Salman would provide him vegetables without charge during financially difficult times. Patel relocated from the area after three years and subsequently joined the police service.
Patel notes, “I felt very happy to meet him after so many years,” adding that despite Salman’s lack of formal education, he consistently predicted Patel’s future success as an officer.
Salman continued his trade at the same location, explaining, “I had Patel Sir’s number on which I used to talk for some time but once my phone broke and then the phone also got lost. I used to watch sir’s videos on social media but could not get in touch. I always thought that Sir will come to meet me one day and just a few days ago he came.”
While Salman’s social media fame hasn’t dramatically altered his business, he acknowledges some improvements: “After the video went viral, my sales increased a little bit. However, the number of people who come for selfies with me is not as many customers.”
While continuing his daily vegetable sales at the local market, Salman maintains his humble approach despite the social media attention. His regular customers still value his fresh produce and fair prices. The viral fame brought curious onlookers who recognise him from the video, but many leave without making purchases.
Salman focuses on serving his loyal patrons who appreciate his quality vegetables and honest business practices. He stays grounded, prioritising his work over the newfound attention.
The modest vendor continues his early morning routine, carefully selecting and arranging his produce for the day’s sales. His authentic personality and dedication to his trade remain unchanged, even as occasional visitors stop by for photos.
