Over the past decade, Creative Space Avon, 33760 Lear Industrial Pkwy. in Avon, could be one of Lorain County’s premier art gallery spaces.
Judy Snook-Kean, owner of Creative Space Avon, has yet another local artist showcase on the way starting April 27.
The show, titled Creative Women VII, will focus on local female artisans from a number of a different fields, Snook-Kean said.
It is inspired by the art gallery at Lakeland Community College, 7700 Clocktower Drive in Kirtland, and features art of women, by women and about women, she said.
Snook-Kean stressed the importance of lifting the voices of women in the community, and has built a series of shows around that.
“I’ve had this since 2015, and I’ve had over 40 gallery shows,” she said. “This is the seventh Creative Women show I’m having.
“There’s 32 women, and the opening is going to be (April 27). There’s an open house, and there’s a closing (May 17). The closing one, I’ll probably have musicians there.”
The show is fully juried, according to Snook-Kean, with awards being given out at 8 p.m., April 27.
In addition to helping Creative Space Avon itself, this show will support a variety of different causes, she said.
“It’s open to the public, and the art is all for sale,” Snook-Kean said. “There’s three different special causes that we’re doing for this event.
“There’s a woman I met representing ovarian cancer nationally. She sent me three torso pieces of art (that are) on a national debut that’s traveling around the United States.”
Snook-Kean said she will host breast cancer support painting event May 1, a networking event May 5 and a separate event May 17 to aid women who are going through reconstruction due to breast cancer.
These events also will tie into the art show’s run, she said.
“It’s all about bringing health for women and being cautious of yourself medically as well,” Snook-Kean said. “Basically, I’m having 12 events in three weeks.”
Snook-Kean expressed the importance of the show, not only for women, but for Lorain County’s community of artists as a whole.
She said she wants to give a platform to younger artists and help them get a foothold in the gallery world.
“I think I’m the only art gallery that is truly an art gallery in Lorain County,” Snook-Kean said. “Not only am I an art gallery space, I’m also a stained glass studio.
“I’m trying to allow artists to come in that are brand new artists.”
The space is open to anyone beginning April 27, Snook-Kean said.
The gallery will be open to the public during any of the supplemental events, and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays through May 17.
