This weekend we’re putting the spotlight on some women performers and artists that are creating masterpieces right in our own backyard.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Going to work looks different for Elana Ohlander. Her office is her art studio.
A career path she didn’t know was a possibility here in Jacksonville.
”I thought in six months, I’m going to be depleted of my savings. I’m going to be back behind the bar. And that was not the case,” she said.
Elana is one of the many artists being featured at the Women’s Art Exchange.
Sharing the stage with professional musicians, poets, and dancers a part of Emily Cargill’s Dance Company.
“Women don’t really have access to a professional platform for all things art,” Cargill mentioned.
Artists from across the East Coast will be traveling to the Phoenix Arts and Innovation District to see how Jacksonville is becoming a hub for creators.
“Equivalent to what you would find in a larger city like in terms of style of work that we’re doing and the professionalism, the opportunity,” added Cargill.
Showing more than just their masterpieces, but how there’s an audience is supporting artists like Ohlander taking risks.
Risks she takes not only with her paintings, but with her true passion.
“Artists community, the older and the younger are starting to come together in a way that’s fostering them and setting them up for long term success,” Ohlander explained.
To take a seat in the audience, the Women’s Art Exchange will take place this Saturday starting at 6:30 p.m. and you can find the link for tickets here.
