St John’s Church will be hosting an evening of words and music – Living Words and Music – by best-selling author and Somerset resident Hazel Prior on Friday at 7.30pm.
Hazel will be giving the evening of readings, conversations and book-signing at the church with profits from the event going to the St John’s Church Fabric Fund.
Her published novels include Call of the Penguins, Ellie and the Harp Maker, Life and Otter Miracles and other titles have sold worldwide and been translated into twenty different languages.
Ellie and the Harp Maker, her debut novel, is ‘a quirky love story set in the Exmoor countryside’ inspired by Hazel’s love of music and nature.
On her website Hazel describes her second novel – Away with the Penguins – as ‘about a feisty eighty-five-year-old millionairess and her adventures in Antarctica! It was inspired by the go-for-it attitude of some of the older people I know and my concerns for the environment, not to mention the incredible resilience and cheerfulness of penguins.’
Away with the Penguins was selected for both BBC Radio 2’s Book Club and Richard & Judy’s Book Club. It’s also a No 1 bestseller in ebook and in audiobook.
A graduate of St Andrew’s University, Hazel is an accomplished harp player and will be playing music during the evening.
Living Words and Music is being supported by Wellington’s Bookshop by the Blackdowns in South Street and there will be copies of Hazel’s books and a variety of others to buy before and after the author’s presentation.
Tickets £10 (one price) are available online at TicketSource.co.uk/StJohnsWelly or at the door. Refreshments will be available at the end of the evening.
