The Well is offering some new ideas for kids during Second Friday Art Walk.
During the event, The Well will host a Young Innovators Market, giving kids the opportunity to sell items and work on their business and other entrepreneurial skills.
Young Innovator Market coordinator Elle Shroyer collaborated with Kate Cooper, The Well Director of Community Engagement, to make the event happen.
“It was Kate Coopers idea to try and grow the number of people coming to The Well during Art Walk,” Shroyer said. “We were actually invited last October and it was fantastic and so much fun for all of the kids.”
With this the second year that The Well is involved in Art Walk, Cooper said she wanted to find a way to attract more people to Cleveland County Wellness Square (The Well).
“We learned a lot in the first year,” Cooper said. “We are not what everybody is typically looking for when they go to Art Walk but we were attracting families, so in order to keep up with the demographic that was coming out, we decided to add the kids’ market.”
The event grew from Shroyer’s past involvement working with kids in other entrepreneurial programs.
“From all of the collaborations we have done with Loveworks, the Farm Market and in collaboration with The Well, it has just been amazing to see the partnerships and relationships that have come from this,” Shroyer said.
Shroyer says the best thing about the program is what the kids garner from their experience at the Market.
“They get an opportunity every month to come out to Second Friday Art Walk to practice their skills and showcase their talents in what they are interested in creating,” Shroyer said. “It’s giving them a tangible opportunity to take what they are learning in the classroom and applying it to real life.”
Along with the Young Innovators Market, there will be activities provided by the Pioneer Library System, as well as some local children’s authors having a story time.
Anyone interested from ages 6-17 in being involved in the Young Innovators Market can apply for a booth and submit a business plan and put down a $10 deposit for each event.
