Younger brother of East Ascension lockdown suspect arrested for terrorizing, posted similar threats on social media

GONZALES, La. (WAFB) – A 14-year-old boy was arrested for terrorizing Saturday, Feb. 3, after posting threatening videos on social media. The arrest comes the day after his 15-year-old brother was taken into custody on the same charge after his similar social media post led East Ascension High to go into lockdown.

The Gonzales Police Department said the 14-year-old, who is a student at Gonzales Middle School, posted a video on Snapchat featuring clips of a weapon, ammunition and “language insinuating the potential for violence.” Police say they received several tips after the video started circulating online.

On Saturday, officers arrested the teen and searched his home, and they confirmed he had “no access to the weapon featured in the video” and therefore had no means or opportunity to carry out the video’s implied acts of violence.

The boy is currently in police custody and is being charged with terrorizing. Gonzales PD investigators are working with the District Attorney’s office to carry out a threat assessment of the teen.

Police said the 14-year-old is the biological sibling of the 15-year-old boy arrested after posting similarly threatening messages on Snapchat, which led to a gun scare on East Ascension High’s campus and a lockdown on Friday, Feb. 2. The 15-year-old sibling is also being charged with terrorizing.
